There are a lot of exciting new beginnings coming up. Most notably, Daf Yomi begins its seven-year cycle anew with tractate Brachos on Sunday, January 5, 2020 – which you should absolutely consider learning with the new AllDaf app! Plus, The OU’s Shoshana Grossman Nach Yomi starts its new two-year cycle with sefer Yehoshua (the Book of Joshua) on Thursday, January 9, 2020! But there’s another opportunity to be koveiah itim laTorah – Daf HaShavua!
In 2017, OU Torah and the OU Department of Community Engagement partnered with Daf Hashovua, AKA Daf-A-Week, to present Daf HaShavua, which at the time was a format of learning already being followed by thousands of participants in more than 20 cities worldwide. In Daf HaShavua, participants study one daf of gemara a week with a focus on continuous review and retention. By offering Daf HaShavua, OU Torah and Synagogue and Community Services successfully introduced new audiences to this effective Torah-study methodology.
The OU offers two Daf HaShavua shiurim, one from Rabbi Beni Krohn, rav of the Young Israel of Teaneck, NJ, and one from Rabbi Daniel Glatstein, mara d’asra of Kehilas Ahavas Yisroel in Cedarhurst, NY (made available courtesy of our friends at Torah Anytime). Additionally, the OU’s own Rabbi Yitzchok Gutterman provides helpful resources to assist in learning each week’s daf.
Still not convinced? Check out this brief message from Rabbi Glatstein on how learning a masechta Daf HaShavua can truly represent The Learning Opportunity of a Lifetime!
Follow the OU’s Daf HaShavua programs on the NEW OU Torah or by using the NEW OU Torah app for Android devices or iOS devices! To start a Daf HaShavua chaburah in your shul, email Rabbi Avi Heller, the OU’s Regional Director for Synagogues, New Jersey and Rockland County, at hellera@ou.org.
