An organization called Friends of the Thuringer Bratwurst had announced plans to move the Bratwurst Museum to a new site that was once part of the Buchenwald concentration camp, sparking protest. The Nazis imprisoned nearly a quarter of a million people in Buchenwald between 1937 and 1945. Around 700 Jewish women were held prisoner in the location that is proposed for the tourist attraction.
Rikola-Gunnar Luettgenau of the Buchenwald Memorial Foundation said the proposal shows a “lack of sensitivity” and a “lack of historical awareness.”
