In April, Israel and the entire Jewish people were moved by the return of missing Israeli soldier Zechariah Baumel ז”ל after 37 years.
Rav Baruch Wieder, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hakotel, fought alongside Zechariah at the famous battle of Sultan Yaakov, where 20 Israeli soldiers lost their lives and four, including Zechariah, were taken prisoner. Their relationship went beyond the battle. Rav Wieder and Zechariah were roommates and chevrutot. They took an officer’s course together, and developed a closeness through these experiences.
Rav Wieder will be coming to the US to speak on “Zechariah Baumel: The True Meaning of Mesirut Nefesh” from July 1-7. The shiur is being sponsored by Yeshivat Hakotel, the Religious Zionists of America/Mizrachi, and the American Friends of Yeshivot Bnei Akiva. The shiur will be open to the public and there will be no fundraising.
