In light of the recent intifada affecting the lives of individuals and families in Israel, Our Way, the Orthodox Union’s program for the deaf and hard of hearing, is partnering with Beth Torah for the Deaf; Brooklyn Hebrew Society for the Deaf; and the Jewish Deaf Foundation to present the “Jewish Deaf United in Support of Israel” program on Sunday, February 14 at 7 p.m. in Brooklyn.
The event will take place at Breslov of Flatbush, 1909 New York Avenue and will feature a presentation by guest speaker Michelle Napell, executive director of ONE Family. American Sign Language and Russian Sign Language interpreters will be available.
Rabbi Eliezer Lederfeind, director of Our Way, explained the joint effort organized for Israel. “Not only are we uniting with Israel, we are also uniting with ourselves,” he said. “Brooklyn is blessed with four independent Jewish organizations for the Deaf and for this event we felt it was most appropriate that we should all do it together for Israel.”
During the program Ms. Napell will speak about terrorism in Israel and how ONE Family is helping families that are victims of terrorism. In addition, a representative from each sponsoring organization will lead a part of the program. A vigil will be held at the gathering to pray for the safety of Jewish people living in Israel and around the world.
