OU Senior Managing Director Rabbi Steven Weil

The Orthodox Union Department of Synagogue and Community Services will present an OU Community Weekend in Newton with Rabbi Steven Weil, OU senior managing director, at Congregation Beth-El Adereth Israel from Friday, October 16 to Saturday, October 17, Shabbat Parshat Noach.

The synagogue is located at 561 Ward Street.

Friday evening following Shabbat dinner at the synagogue, Rabbi Weil will give a lecture on “Apocalypse Now.” On Saturday morning he will deliver a sermon after the Mussaf service on “The State of the Family.” Later in the afternoon, Rabbi Weil will culminate the OU Community Weekend with a talk during Seudat Shlishit on “My Three Sons.”

Rabbi Gershon Segal, spiritual leader of Congregation Beth-El Adereth Israel, said, “We are excited to be hosting Rabbi Weil whose inspiration motivated our congregation to donate funds this past year to the OU’s Makom Balev center in Kiryat Gat, Israel, where children and adolescents receive much needed services to help them cope with the trauma of terrorist attacks from Gaza. This marks the third OU Israel project supported by our congregation.”

He continued, “The earlier projects were the renovation of a bomb shelter in Sderot into a children’s recreational center (2007) and the Zula outreach project in Jerusalem (2006). We are proud to have partnered with the OU throughout the years on supporting its important work in Israel. All three projects together represent $150,000 in contributions from our shul.”

Rabbi Segal concluded, “We are looking forward to being elevated by Rabbi Weil’s scholarship and passion as we begin our shul’s scholar-in-residence program for the year.”
