A letter from OU Executive Vice President Rabbi Moshe Hauer:
Dear Friends,
The Holocaust was a period in history that demonstrated the human capacity to fail at our fundamental mission to merge power and goodness. It was a time when many used their human power to destroy, while many others stood by as if they were powerless to do anything to stop or even to mitigate the unfolding tragedy.
As we commemorate Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remind ourselves and each other of our opportunity and our charge as human beings to act powerfully for the good of each other and for mankind as a whole. As we continue to see the ugly presence of anti-Semitism and of far too many other expressions of hatred and violence, we recommit to reject both evil and powerlessness and to move forward decisively in the promotion of goodness and peace.
