OU president Dr. Simcha Katz was among seven Jewish leaders who met with Vice President Joe Biden before Thanksgiving regarding the plight of Jonathan Pollard. Vice President Biden invited the group in response to an earlier request for a meeting. The Jewish contingent reported that they were encouraged by their discussion.
The composition of the group reflected the three major streams of Judaism. Aside from Dr. Katz, attendees included Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, Rabbi Steve Gutow, president of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, and others. More about this important meeting and the status of the Pollard case can be read here.
