The Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index has ranked 169 nations based on life expectancy, sanitation, access to medical care and other factors, imposing penalties for such health risks as tobacco use and obesity. According to this index, Israel is the 10th healthiest country in the world.
The Mediterranean diet, common not only in Israel but also in Spain and Italy — the #1 and #2 countries on the list — was particularly noted as healthy in the analysis.
The U.S. placed 64th, largely due to a high obesity rate.
