A Canadian company has been ordered to pay $19,000 to the Kashruth Council of Canada for using its logo on products that were not certified by the agency. Adee Flour Mills was accused of causing “spiritual trauma” to Jews who ate non-kosher products that were mislabeled as kosher.
This case follows a 2017 precedent in which a company was fined $25,000 Canadian for sending non-kosher cheese to two summer camps, followed by forged kashrut credentials. Richard Rabkin, managing director of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis, called that incident “the first time in Canadian history that the judicial system has enforced kosher labelling laws.”
