Spirit: Plan What You Can: Navigating Aging and End of Life Care with Halacha

Presented by Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody and Bassie (Beth) Taubes

Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody is the executive director of Ematai, an organization dedicated to helping people navigate dilemmas regarding end-of-life care, and a columnist for the Jerusalem Post. His writings and work are dedicated to applying Jewish ethics to modern dilemmas. He is the author of A Guide to the Complex: Contemporary Halakhic Debates, a National Jewish Book Award winner, and Ethics of Our Fighters: A Jewish View on War and Morality. A graduate of Harvard College and a former rebbe at Yeshivat Hakotel, he received rabbinic ordination from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, an MA in Jewish philosophy at the Hebrew University, and his PhD from Bar Ilan University Law School.

Bassie (Beth)Taubes is a nurse with over 30 years of clinical experience in oncology and a passionate advocate for community health and wellness. She serves as the Director of Community Outreach for Ematai, an organization that blends Jewish wisdom with clinical expertise to guide individuals and families through complex healthcare decisions, including aging, end-of-life care, and organ donation. Bassie is also the founder of Wellness Motivations LLC, where she provides personalized health coaching to help clients lead healthier, more balanced lives. In addition to her professional roles, Bassie is the Rebbetzin of Congregation Zichron Mordechai in Teaneck, NJ. Through Ematai, she conducts workshops across the tri-state area, empowering participants to make healthcare choices aligned with halacha, Jewish values, and their personal principles.
