What did you mean you didn’t know it was due today?
Just kidding. It’s not today but it’s coming up fast. What is it? Shavuos, of course!
The Sefirah period counts the seven weeks from the Exodus (which took place on Passover) to the revelation at Sinai and the giving of the Torah. This took place on Shavuos or, if you prefer, Shavuot. (The English instructions in my old-timey siddur call it “Pentecost.” I have never heard anybody call it that in my entire life. #justsaying, #hashtagsdontworkinblogposts)
Anyway, it’s easy to get distracted along the way by Yom HaShoah, Yom HaZikaron, Yom Ha’Atzma’ut and Lag B’Omer, but from this point on, it’s smooth sailing to Shavuos. To help you prepare for the Big Day, OU Holidays is loaded with Shavuos content.
Here’s what’s highlighted:
* The Story of Shavuot – What’s in a name? Plenty!
* Sefira: The Countdown to Shavuos – by Rabbi Paysach J. Krohn
* Shavuot – Why Keep It a Secret? – by Rabbi Yehoshua Grunstein
* Shavuos and the Awesomeness of Torah – by Rabbi Yosef Grossman
We’ll be featuring more between now and Shavuos but why wait? Click around OU Holidays and get ready to receive the Torah!
