[m., pl. “Shochatim”]; a ritual slaughterer; as in, “The purpose and the need for “shochatim,” ritual slaughterers, is to keep the Jewish People from transgressing the prohibition against “Cutting a limb from a living animal,” one of the “Sheva Mitzvot Bnei Noach,” the Seven Noahide Laws ;essentially the same as preventing cruelty to animals.
